Copa America 2024 top scorers: Golden Boot list updated with Pulisic, Nunez off goal line, but Messi blank

The Copa America has returned to the US this summer as Argentina looks to retain its continental crown.

Lionel Messi leads the defending champions at the tournament, which is back in the US for the first time since 2016, with the Inter Miami forward looking to win a third consecutive international title on the back of his success at the 2022 World Cup.

Argentina started the tournament as favorites to lift the trophy, with Messi at the center of their attack, but Brazilian duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes are likely to be among those competing with him for the Golden Boot. Messi won the award in 2021, scoring four goals and claiming five assists on his way to the title.

The Sporting News follows the top scorers as each match is played at the Copa America 2024 and updates the rankings below as the goals come in.

Copa America 2024 Golden Boot tiebreakers

The player who tops the charts with the most goals at the Copa America 2024 will win the coveted Golden Boot.

If there is more than one player with the same number of goals, the decision will be made by the player who contributed the most assists. If there is still more than one level of players, the next tiebreak will be played with the fewest minutes played.

Copa America Golden Boot is Lionel Messi’s favorite in 2024

It’s no surprise that Argentine superstar Messi was the pre-tournament favorite to win the Golden Boot at this summer’s Copa America. Messi started the tournament with 13 goals in the Copa America leading up to 2024 needing four more to equal compatriot Norberto Mendez and Brazilian legend Zizinho as the most prolific goalscorer in the competition’s history.

The Brazilian talisman Vinicius Jr. and Uruguayan frontman Darwin Nunez, who finished his second full Premier League season with Liverpool with 11 goals and eight assists, are tipped to challenge him.
